At the time in Britain, there was a major Egyptian boom, with the publication of Egyptian papers and the use of Egyptian styles in the architectural designs of public buildings.
Hieroglyphs were also used as an Egyptian design, as a spectacle, remaining an undeciphered code.
Also, the production of cufflinks became mass-producible after the late 18th century due to the Industrial Revolution, and spread not only to the aristocracy but also to the general public.
