Pentatone's Spirit of the American Range celebrates the work of one of the musical giants of the 20th c., Aaron Copland, joined by the work of one of his colleagues, Walter Piston ("an expert American craftsmen" - Copland) and the self-proclaimed bad boy of American music, George Antheil. This release is undeniably a homage to the distinctive musical characterization of American themes in a passionate, modern style. The Oregon Symphony, established more than 100 years ago, has been recognized for it's internationally acclaimed music directors, skilled performers and diverse programs. It ranks among the largest orchestras in the USA and is one of the largest arts organizations in the Northwest. As with their two previously released Pentatone titles, the orchestra is led once again by it's chief conductor, artistic and music director Carlos Kalmar.
