Antique 1906 Leather Postcard - Made in Germany - Hand Painted Dutch Boy
Description:
A beautiful survivor from the "Golden Age" of postcards! This genuine leather card is a high-quality German import from 1906.
* Art: Features a hand-colored illustration of a boy in traditional wooden clogs. This is a "pyrography" piece, where the design was burnt into the leather before being hand-tinted.
* Markings: Clearly stamped "Made in Germany" on the front.
* Postal History: Includes the original 1-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp (Series 1902) and a clear 1906 postmark.
* Personal Touch: Hand-dated "Sept 3 - 06" in cursive. Addressed to Mrs. C. G. Lautz in Chicago.
* Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The leather has a soft, aged feel and the hand-painted colors remain surprisingly vibrant for being 119 years old.
Leather cards were banned by the US Post Office in 1907 because they jammed sorting machines, making these early 1900s survivors quite rare!
