The bust is a version after the antique marble bust of King Menelaus of Sparta held in the Vatican Museum, Rome. Made in the 1800s. It has been handpainted in lifelike colors by the original artist.
I do not know for certain what it is made of. It is extremely heavy and very shiny. It was purchased from an Estate auction. I loved that he was painted in such lifelike colors.
