This is an antique cast iron Tammany mechanical bank manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Company.

The bank was patented in 1873 by John Hall and is also known as the "Little Fat Man" bank.

It is widely believed to caricature corrupt 19th-century New York politician William "Boss" Tweed and the Tammany Hall political machine.

The mechanical action involves placing a coin in the figure's outstretched hand; a lever is pressed, the figure's hand moves to "pocket" the money, and his head nods in acknowledgment. This action was meant to symbolize the graft and corruption associated with the political organization.

The item in the image displays typical wear and patina for an antique of its age, which is circa late 1800s.
