This is a charming vintage omiyage kokeshi (souvenir kokeshi) doll inspired by the legendary figure Shimizu Jirocho (清水次郎長, 1820–1893), one of Japan’s most famous historical yakuza bosses. Beautifully hand-carved from wood and carefully painted, the figure is shown in traditional travel attire with a broad hat atop his head, a walking stick, and a travel pack slung across his back. The floral pattern on his pink kimono adds a soft touch to his stern expression, reflecting both the ruggedness and unexpected gentleness often associated with his legendary character. At his feet, a small signpost reads 「こんぴら」(Konpira), indicating a pilgrimage destination, Konpira Shrine (Kotohira-gu) in Kagawa Prefecture, a famous spot for travelers and merchants.
