This is a photo book by Kishin Shinoyama, "YUKIO MISHIMA THE DEATH OF THE MAN."

Published in the United States on the 50th anniversary of Yukio Mishima's death, this photo book features Mishima as the model and was taken by Kishin Shinoyama.
It is the phantom photo book "Yukio Mishima: The Death of a Man," planned by author Yukio Mishima just before his death by seppuku at the Japan Self-Defense Forces camp in Ichigaya, Tokyo in 1970, and photographed by Kishin Shinoyama, but shelved after the incident.
Mishima himself plays iconic deaths from his literature, such as a swordsman defeated in a duel, a samurai committing seppuku, and a fisherman dying on a ship. He enlisted the trusted photographer Kishin Shinoyama to create a dense work that theatrically and visually expresses his unique aesthetic.
The book also includes many famous photographs of the "Tatenokai" (Shield Society), to which Mishima devoted himself in his lifetime.
Entirely in monochrome, the chic binding evokes Mishima's intense and short life, creating a very solemn impression.
At the end of the book, there is a Japanese text by Yukio Mishima about Kishin Shinoyama's nude photographs of women, which is a treat for fans.
In addition, an essay by artist Tadanori Yokoo, who was asked by Mishima in his lifetime to be a model for "The Death of a Man," reflecting on that time, is very interesting.
