This is a photo book "Flower Life / Hana-Jinsei" by Nobuyoshi Araki, a leading Japanese photographer also known as "Araki." This book was published in conjunction with exhibitions held at the Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, and features Araki's long-standing theme of "flowers." He began photographing flowers in the early 1970s, starting with the wilting flowers placed on the graves at the Jyokanji Temple in Minowa, where his family lived. After the death of his wife, Yoko, in 1990, he became immersed in photographing flowers, releasing series such as "Shikikei," "Hanakyoku," and "Shikijoka." He captures them in various ways, from close-ups to settings in vases, with fresh, vibrant colors, even of decaying flowers. The book is a collection of flower photographs, ranging from still-life-like serenity to sensual and erotic depictions characteristic of Araki, including flowers colored with paint. New works, including the painting "Kaga," are also included.
Works include: Higanbana (1967), Shikikei (1990-2001), Kinkei (1990-1996), Hanakyoku (1995-1998), Shijo (2001), Shikijoka, and Kaga (paintings: 2002).
At the end of the book, there are also several portraits titled "Nobuyoshi Araki's Notes."
This item was purchased at the exhibition at the time.
