The piece has not been scientifically authenticated & is offered as an attributed or stylistic example only.

An expressive example of the Ancient Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Colima culture, 300 BC-300 AD. Burnished polychrome earthenware effigy vessel designed in the rare form of a sitting owl w/legs that project at the front & a short tail at the back.

The vessel is painted entirely in dark brown w/black dots. The wings feature incised sgraffito designs. The head has pointed ears & round eyes. The face is unglazed.

A central cylindrical spout w/ a loop emerges from the top of the head. When blowing into the spout, the piece can produce a loud whistle.

These vessels provided a tangible link to ancient Mesoamerican rituals & daily life, celebrated for their unique sound-making capabilities & expressive forms.

Displays signs of age & w/evidence of wear and areas of earthen encrustation. In great condition for its age. Small flea bite at end of beak.
