Gorgeous brooch with mother of pearl signed Mandle. Both sets of wings articulate. Goldtone with nice detailing on brooch.
2 1/8” x 1 1/2”.
Rare because this company, founded in 1938 by German Immigrant Uri Mandle, did most of their business overseas. Their only US customers were Lord & Taylor, Peck & Peck and Mays.
URI gained experience working for E Cohn & Company, Cori and Lisner, which he left to start his own company.
His son Robert later joined the firm and registered as R. Mandle in 1956. He was known for his master molds of brooches, especially musical instruments, still highly sought after.
I believe this brooch is from the 60’s. It really looks like new!
